Group Tuition for A-Level Literature: Poetry (H1 and H2)
Let’s face it, Lit can be hard.
Especially when you have no idea what you’re even doing wrong.
I mean, how can you get better if you don’t even know what mistakes you’re making? Or if you don’t know what to study? Or how to study it?
Even if you do your work, read your notes, come to class, and read the texts, you can still fail. (I guess you probably know this by now.)
You can be diligent — maybe even passionate — and that still isn’t going to save you.
But the thing is: chances are the problem isn’t you at all. The problem is the system.
Why You’re Still Struggling
There are certain key concepts, ideas, and techniques in Literature that often aren’t taught explicitly in school.
I don’t know why this happens, but teachers often take these principles for granted and assume you know them already.
Here’s the thing, though: until you truly understand those principles, your essays will keep on coming back with failing grades.
You’re going to keep seeing comments like “No” and “narration” and “ANSWER THE QUESTION”, with squiggly lines drawn under your phrases and random words circled here and there, and you will have no clue what any of it even means.
Fortunately there’s hope.
What You Can Do
Assuming you have a certain level of English ability (and chances are you do), it’s possible to turn your Literature grades around very fast.
You just need to learn these unspoken principles and hidden techniques, and then apply and practise them until they become a part of you.
And that’s what I teach.
I graduated from university with a First Class Honours degree in English Literature. Took the medal for being the top student in my entire cohort. Multiple Dean’s List honours. Backup valedictorian. I’ve got tricks up my sleeve that nobody else can teach you.
And I’m also a qualified teacher with a Postgraduate Diploma in Education. I taught in the school system for five years and have been tutoring since 2005.
In other words: I’ve been studying and teaching English Lit for more years than you’ve been alive. Let that sink in.
I know exactly what it takes to be a brilliant student at English Literature, and I know it is possible to work miracles in the space of only a few months.
Class Is in Session
Usually I teach students only on an individual basis, but I’m trying something different this year.
The various schools are doing a wide range of texts, but what they all have in common is unseen poetry. Assessment criteria are slightly different for H1 and H2, but the fundamental skills remain the same.
So I’m opening a weekly class specifically for unseen poetry, covering both H1 and H2 skills.
(Depending on response, I’ll also be opening more classes dealing with the most popular texts at H1 and H2 level — so keep an eye out for that.)
